Private graveside services for Michael Werner McNamee, 79, of Chico will be held on Friday, April 22, 2005 at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. He was a 16-year resident of Chico. Michael passed away Monday, April 18, 2005 surrounded by his family.

Michael was born at Fort Crook, Neb. on May 24, 1925 to Roland W. McNamee, a career military officer and his wife Emily. Michael, along with his three brothers, were raised on a number of Army posts throughout the United States.

Michael, along with his father, uncle and brother attended the United States Military Academy at West Point for 4 years, graduating in 1949.

He married his wife, Avis, the same year.

After graduation, Michael optioned to begin his career in the U.S. Air Force where he initially served as a B-29 navigator during the Korean War.

He continuted his career, later receiving an MBA for USC before retiring from research and development at the Pentagon in 1967.

In civilian life, Michael worked as a supervisor of the computer center at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesas before joining the faculty.

Michael enjoyed watching the annual Army-Navy football games.

He also enjoyed collecting golf balls as much as playing the game of golf.

He is survived by his wife, Avis; brother, Lee McNamee of Wauwatosa, Wisc.; children, Nancy Donnan of Chico, son, Larry McNamee of Temecula, Calif., Steve McNamee of Oceanside, Calif. and daughter, Patty McNamee of Mount Terrace, Wash.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A quiet, loving man, and officer and a gentleman. Your family will miss you.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bidwell Chapel.
