With my father, Arnold Winter's, passing I am coming to find that so many of his friends are/were from West Point. I heard a lot about West Point as a child and remember names and meeting many of my dad's friends through the years. As I review the class of 1949 memorial list I find I had little concept that the majority of his friends were from West Point. I remember Mr. Swanke, or as my dad called him SwanKE as a tall lean, white haired gentleman with a deep voice. My parents and he and his wife would get together at each other's house for cocktails. My dad and Don lost touch for unknown reasons, but it saddens me to see all these names of people I met through my father that I know meant so much to him. Rest in Peace. |
