Colonel Douglas Spoor Weart, USAF (Retired) passed away peacefully on Monday, 6 May 2013 at the Army Residence Community in San Antonio, Texas.

Born to Major General Douglas L. Weart and Gertrude Weart on 28 Jan 1927, he was the youngest of four children.

He served his country and family with distinction throughout his lifetime.

Doug was a 30-year career U.S. Air Force Officer and senior command pilot who flew combat missions in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

He began his service after graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1949. Following initial pilot training at Randolph Field in San Antonio, he served with excellence in various flying, staff, and command positions throughout the USAF.

He married Joan Dunne, daughter of Col and Mrs. David Dunne in August 1950.

A fun loving man and great teaser, during his retirement Doug enjoyed traveling with Joan, playing golf, and staying very active in the Windcrest and Army Residence Communities, as well as the local Kiwanis Club. As a club President and District Officer Doug continued to give back to the nation through Kiwanis, helping to sponsor college scholarships and other community support activities.

Of all of his accomplishments he was most proud of his family.

He is survived by his wife Joan and his sister Mary Ada Artiglia.
Additional survivors are his daughter Margaret Weart Franklin and son-in-law LTC (Ret) Charles D. Franklin of Blue Springs, MO; his son COL (Ret) Steven K. Weart and daughter-in-law Barbara Weart of Shalimar, FL; his son LTC (Ret) Jeffrey M. Weart and daughter-in-law Carol Weart of Spring Lake, NC.

Doug was predeceased by his son Douglas D. Weart.

Doug also enjoyed the love of his seven grandchildren, Amy, Casey, Mandy, Steven, Katherine, David, and Robert; his four great-grandchildren, David, Emmy, Molly, Maya; and numerous nieces and nephews.
