Be Thou At Peace

U.S. Army (Ret.), Korean Conflict, Vietnam War.

He earned two legions of merit, three bronze stars, a combat infantry badge, and a Purple Heart. He spent 27 years in the Army until his retirement in 1974, and 30 years in the Northern Virginia area.

Colonel Hoffmann received his BS degree in 1949 from the U.S. Military Academy and his Master's Degree in Economics in 1970 from the University of Maryland. He retired in 1991 from Amtrak, and in retirement, was an active member of the George Mason Learning & Retirement Institute.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Hoffmann in July 1991.

Survivors include his daughter, Dale Marie Hoffmann; granddaughter, Julie Marie Duncan, and sister, Joan Sherman of Florida.

Graveside services with full military honors were conducted on Friday, January 4, 2008.
