Be Thou At Peace

Colonel John Pat Vollmer passed away June 19, 2012 at the age of 84.

Col. Vollmer was born in Fort Riley, Kansas.
He graduated from West Point Military Academy in 1949. As a 1st Lieutenant he led a platoon in the Korean War and was wounded there, for which he received the Purple Heart. As a Lt. Colonel he commanded an infantry battalion in Vietnam and his unit was instrumental in the victory of the battle west of Pleiku near the Cambodian border, commonly known as the Nine Days in May. Among many decorations awarded in his career, he earned seven Legions of Merit, awarded for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements.

Daughter, Kathleen Vollmer, both of Kennesaw; GA,

Sister-In Law, Anne Ogle;
Nephews, Kevin Ogle, Kent Ogle, and Kelly Ogle of Oklahoma City, OK, Steve Vollmer of Punta Gorda, FL., Andrew Vollmer, Esq. of Washington, D.C., Thomas Vollmer of Pleasant Ridge, MI, and Paul Vollmer, of Portland, OR.

A memorial service was held at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, Marietta, GA 30060.
Interment at the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA, with full military honors.
