Colonel, USA (Retired)

Colonel Charles Bopes Lee (USA, retired) died peacefully at The Fairfax, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, on July 18, 2017.

He was born and raised in Aledo, Illinois, and graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1949.

Colonel Lee served in posts throughout the country and in Korea, Vietnam, and twice in Germany, retiring in l973.

He was awarded the Bronze Star, Commendation Medal and Air Medal.

He earned an MBA from George Washington University and subsequently worked for the Federal Highway Administration and served as a consultant for various defense-related companies.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Constance Theimer Lee; by his daughter, Patricia Lee Faris and her husband, Doug; by his son, Charles Bopes Lee, Junior and his wife, Beth, all of Charlotte, North Carolina; and by his grandchildren, Charles Bopes Lee III, Elizabeth Stone Faris, Edward Bopes Lee, and Katherine Lee Faris.

A memorial service and interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mercer County (IL) Historical Society, 1406 SE 2nd Avenue, Aledo, IL 61231 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
