Colonel (Ret.) David E. Bolte, of Fort Belvoir, VA passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2015.

Loving husband of Mary Lee Bolte; father of Benjamin Bolte, John Bolte, Damara Galliot, and Kathryn Bolte; brother of two, and grandfather of 11.

Graduate of West Point's US Military Academy Class of 1949, Dave was the son of General Charles L. and Adelaide Poore Bolte and brother of Philip L. Bolte of Huntsville, AL (USMA Class of 1950), and Damara Bolte of Leesburg, VA.

He was a graduate of Hill School in Pennsylvania.

In the US Army Dave served as infantryman from 1949 thru 1977.

He was a leader, a fighter, a linguist, servant, historian, athlete, story-teller, and an example of honesty, strength, pride, character and honor.

A Memorial Service was held at The Fairfax at Belvoir Woods, 9140 Belvoir Woods Parkway, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060, on June 9th at 11 am.

Inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

The son of an Army General, Colonel Bolte was born in Washington and grew up at Army posts around the world.

He served for 28 years in the US Army and retired in 1977 as installation commander at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

After he retired, David taught mathematics at T.C. Williams Hight School in Alexandria, VA and other northern Virginia schools.

From 1982 to 1989 he was an accounts manager for Intertek, a quality control management company.

In the mid-1990s David Bolte served as a co-chair on the Mount Vernon Council of Citizens Associations. A local newspaper, "The Mount Vernon Voice", published by Marlene Miller and Steve Hunt, wrote an editorial tribute to David, published on June 24, 2015, titled "Mount Vernon's Loss" in which they wrote the following, "When we first began covering the Mount Vernon Council of Citizens Associations almost two decades ago, we were charmed and impressed by one of the co-chairs in particular. David Bolte ran his share of the meetings with an acumen and dry sense of humor that got things done while bringing divergent views together for solutions that benefitted the community as a whole. The retired Army colonel and West Point graduate was active in many phases of community life, among them as chair of the county Planning and Zoning Committee. Mount Vernon suffered a huge loss with his passing. We are grateful for having known him. Our heartfelt condolences to his family."

For many years David and Mary Lee were members and attended St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Alexandria, VA. He loved singing in the St. Luke's Parish Choir.

He died on June 1st, 2015 in the residential care center of his home at The Fairfax at Fort Belvoir, from congestive heart failure.

His ashes were inurned in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors on 24 December 2015.

He will be missed and remembered by his family and his many friends.
