Goble Watson Bryant, age 83, of Marietta, GA passed away after a brief illness on November 24, 2008 - surrounded by his family.

Goble was born on September 24, 1925 in Denton, Texas to Ida K. Bryant and Goble F. Bryant, and was married to Barbara Steen Bryant in August 1950.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and will be truly missed.

Goble was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War serving in the Army Air Corps and the Army Field Artillery.

He was Captain of the 1943 Texas A&M football team that played in the Orange Bowl, and then starred on several National Championship teams at the United States Military Academy in 1945, 1946, and 1947. He was named to the Football Writer's of America All-American Team, Captained the College All-Stars that beat the New York Giants, and was drafted by the Green Bay Packers.

Following his military service he was an assistant football coach at West Point with Vince Lombardi and Col. Red Blaik. He also scouted for the Dallas Cowboys in the early 1960's.

Goble had been a real estate developer in Atlanta for the past 40 years. He was a member of the Atlanta Touchdown Club, the Buckhead 50 Club, Atlanta Country Club, and the West Point Society of Atlanta.

Preceded in death by his sister Violet L'Hommedieu who passed away in May, Goble is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Steen Bryant, and their sons Goble Watson Bryant, Jr. of Atlanta, his wife Nadya; Bruce Steen Bryant of Atlanta, his wife Jan; and their daughter Barbara Bryant Williams of Richmond, VA, her husband Rowland. Loving grandchildren Meredith Adele Bryant, Watson Hahn Bryant, William Steen Bryant, Carter Nichols Bryant, Isham Rowland Williams IV, Marguerite Virginia Williams, Watson Eric Bryant, and Zander Goble Bryant. Nephew Phelps L'Hommedieu, best friend Joseph B. Steffy, scores of extended family and friends, and faithful companion Daisy.

A memorial Service will be held Monday, December 8, 2008 at 10am at the Cathedral of St. Philip 2744 Peachtree Road NW, Atlanta, GA .

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cathedral of Saint Philip or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements by Cremation Society of the SOUTH in Marietta.
