Be Thou At Peace

Arthur Louis Gerometta, born in Gary, IN, September 4, 1925, died Friday, April 7, 2000, at his residence in Ogden Dunes, following complications from surgery.

A 1943 graduate of Emerson High School, he attended Illinois University before receiving an appointment to the United States Military Academy.

He entered the academy in 1944 and played on the Army football team when they were national champions in 1944, 1945, and 1946.
Graduating in 1949, he served in Korea as a Lieutenant, earning the Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

On May 30, 1952, he married Nancy Hubbard and lived at West Point for a year as an instructor in the MT&G Department and TDY football coach.

Returning to Gary, he was Vice-President of Gerometta Construction Company.

Preceded in death by his youngest son, Gregg, he is survived by his wife, Nancy, sons, Marshall of Griffith, IN and Bruce (Laurie) of Fullerton, CA; brother Robert (Midge) Gerometta; sisters, Jean Gerometta of Ogden Dunes, Anita Andrews of San Francisco, and grandchildren Amelia and Tyler Gerometta of Columbus, IN.

He attended the Ogden Dunes Community Church; was a member of the Rotary International, Fundraiser with Gary YMCA, Gary Old Timers Athletic Association, the 1962 inductee to the Gary Sports Hall of Fame, Past President of the Gary Country Club, an avid supporter of Portage High School Athletics, Indiana Football Hall of Fame - 1992, Michigan City 76ers golf league, Meals on Wheels and Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

Cremation will take [lace at Heritage Crematory in Portage with interment to take place in the Ogden Dunes Community Church Memorial Garden. Memorial services to be announced at a later date. Family suggests memorials be made to V.N.A. Hospice of Porter County, 501 Marquette St., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
