Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Patrick Kimball on December 29, 2010:

My two roommates in H-1 during third class year were found for lack of military aptitude. To be fair, I think they were
just asking to be let go. That left me as an orphan. Apparently, the tactical department decided that I had some merit, but needed better influence from roommates.

Bob Lynch, Chuck Spettel, and Miers Johnson were scheduled to room together cow year. The tacs bumped Miers and inserted me instead. Chuck was not too happy about the change, but Bob accepted me without reservation. Together, they gave me support and encouragement. And Chuck and I helped Bob get past academic hurdles.

During first class year, Adell Mulkey and Sue Hicks roomed together in New York. Their friendship continued for a lifetime as Mrs. Lynch and Mrs. Kimball, respectively. We saw each other every few years, the last on our visit to San Antonio. Bob Lynch was always the quiet, steady one. Our oldest sons, now 60, were born on the same day.
