Obituary
Lewis L. Zickel, 80, of Dobbs Ferry, NY, died following a long illness on Sunday, May 13, at home surrounded by his family.

Lew was a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and a veteran of the Korean War, where he earned a Bronze Medal of Honor.

He was a member of the Dobbs Ferry Village Board of Trustees for ten years, serving as Deputy Mayor for the last two years of service. During his tenure as Trustee he was responsible for numerous engineering projects in the Village, including the roadway bridge to the train station, Chart House, and Waterfront Park.

His life was dedicated to his family, to West Point, to his community and Country. He personified the West Point motto, "Duty, Honor, Country."

Colonel Zickel was instrumental in the creation of the West Point Jewish Chapel and managed its construction. Following its completion, he was the President of the West Point Jewish Council.

Adored and cherished by his wife, Yael; his children Mark Debra, Karen George, Iris Schwartz Avi, Tami Caplan Aaron; and 12 grandchildren.

Respected and loved by everyone whose life he touched, he was a hero to many, humble, intelligent, loving and thoughtful; a model of integrity, commitment, wisdom and compassion. He mixed it all up with a grand sense of humor. We are grateful for the blessing of his extraordinary life. He will be loved and missed always.
