LAWRENC E JAMES OGDEN

Lawrence James Ogden, 80, of Vero Beach, FL died April 19, 2006 at Indian River Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Philadelphia on December 6, 1925.

He received his appointment to West Point in June 1945, as a member of the class of 1949.

Upon graduation from West Point, Larry was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps. He served in the Korean War and was awarded several honors, including two Purple Hearts and two Silvers Stars for valor. Other postings where he served with distinction include Taiwan, where he was a defense advisor to President Chiang Kai-shek, the Vietnam War, where he commanded a battalion, and in the office of the Commander in Chief of the Pacific.

In 1974 he retired at the rank of Colonel to begin a second career as a lobbyist for the Interstate Natural Gas Association in Washington DC.

In 1989 Larry and his wife Sue moved to Vero Beach, where they had maintained a winter home.

He attended Trinity Episcopal Church and was an active member of Bent Pine Golf Club.

Larry is survived by his wife Sue Ann Ogden, his sister Patricia Kiefner, sons Winfield Ogden and Stephen Ogden, and grandson Matthew Ogden.

SERVICES: Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach, FL. A service will be held at 9 am on Friday June 16, 2006 at the Old Post Chapel at Ft. Meyer, Virginia. Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery.

The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The West Point Fund at The United States Military Academy at West Point.
