William Fletcher "Bill" Earthman, Jr. was the son of Georgia Trigg Bell and William Fletcher Earthman, Sr.

Bill married Alice Warfield Tyne on June 24, 1950 in Nashville. To this union four children were born, William Fletcher Earthman III, Thomas Tyne Earthman, John Christopher Burch Earthman, and Elizabeth Warfield Earthman Cooney.

After Bill and Alice divorced, Bill married Dorothy Bartlett, and to this union a daughter, Catherine Calhoon Earthman was born. Grandfather of Brooke Earthman McChesney, William Fletcher Earthman IV, Robertson Tyne Earthman Beasley, Georgia Warfield Beasley, and Anne Keeble Earthman.

Mr. Earthman was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Commerce Union Bank in Nashville.

A West Point graduate, he worked his way up from trainee to top job becoming the youngest President of a major bank at the age of 35. "He was a visionary. He was ambitious. He liked perfection, and he rewarded perfection. He was always looking for talent."

When he retired in 1985 he expanded the Bank's assets from 155 million to 2.25 billion and it's offices from 16 in the state to 65 around the world. The bank ranked as one of the "100 largest banks in the country." The bank was eventually bought by Bank of America.

Mr. Earthman, a gentle man, kind and considerate spent his later years as a nurseryman, creating the 500-acre Shady Valley Nursery in Beersheba Springs in Grundy County, Tennessee.

Active in the Republican Party and civic organizations such as the Nashville Symphony.

Mr. Earthman's funeral was held at Christ Church Catherdal, Nashville, where he worshipped.
