John Emory Hurst

West Point, 1950

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Lynn Romano on February 19, 2019:

John Emory Hurst was my uncle. Everyone in my family was very proud of him and his many accomplishments. Not only did he graduate from West Point, but he earned a master's degree in English from Columbia University. He served in the Vietnam War and later became a colonel. He wrote for a well-known United States general. He was a vice president for Eastern Airlines. I know he had many more accomplishments.

When my identical twin sister and I attended college in Virginia, we spent one spring vacation with my uncle and his lovely family. They were very kind to us.

My twin sister asked my uncle to walk her down the aisle at her wedding; he accepted.

Besides being an accomplished man, he was fun to be with. He had a good sense of humor and had an engaging smile. He had a hidden talent of being an excellent samba dancer. And most people thought he was a very handsome man.

No words can suffice to adequately honor my uncle.
