William Dwight Farrington

Born February 15, 1928 - Died January 12, 2008

William Dwight "Buck" Farrington was born in Franklin, Massachusetts on 15 February 1928 and was appointed to West Point from the Army of the United States. His West Point classmates recall: "Buck is another of the famous Stewart Field men, class of '47. A tour in the Air Force prepared him for his roles as chief story teller, father confessor to Plebes, and laugh master. A fool - like the rest of us - for a woman, a wagon, and a weekend, he has rounded out his activities by standing consistently high in academics, physical efficiency and in his leadership." During his cadet days Buck went out for the Ski Club all four years and was Club President his last, he was on the Pointer Staff, on the Ski Patrol, the Radio and Spanish Clubs and was a Cadet Captain his first class year serving as F-1 Cadet Company Commander.

On graduation Buck went in the Infantry and after completing the Basic Infantry Course at Fort Benning, Georgia reported to the 45th Division in Korea where he served until 1953. He was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal for distinguished heroism against an enemy, the Purple Heart for wounds in action against an enemy, and the Combat Infantryman Badge on completion of his tour.

On return to stateside Buck resigned his First Lieutenant's commission and returned to school. He earned a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California in 1956 and was a Consultant in Civil Engineering from 1955 to 1976.

Buck has been one of our "lost" classmates for some time although he maintains a Post Office Box in Incline Village, Nevada.
