Robert Lloyd Johnson

West Point, 1951

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Major (Ret) Wolfgang Hertweck on December 20, 2007:

This morning my best friend, COL (ret) Robert L. Johnson, West Point Class 1951, was called to eternal rest by the Supreme Commander of us all. Bob was a dedicated Christian and family man with great love for his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a wounded warrior, serving combat tours in Korea and Vietnam and a caring commander of troops. He served 24 years as Infantry Officer, in varied command and staff positions, and aerospace research and development assignments. Upon retirement he continued serving God, country and his fellow man. He epitomized service above self: it was better to give than receive and, to paraphrase JFK, never asked what his country could do for him but rather embodied the spirit of giving his all to God, country and his fellow man. It was a great privilege to serve under COL Johnson in the military and later beside him in my civilian endeavors. Bob, I shall always remember your valor, your devotion to duty and your unwavering friendship!

Father, welcome him into paradise, where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus, Your Son, and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Eternal rest grant unto him. Grant peace and eternal rest to those who have gone before us. Strengthen and console his family, friends and those in sorrow and bestow upon us Thy everlasting blessing. Amen

Farewell my friend!
