Be Thou At Peace

Posted by F. O. Cornay on April 5, 2008:

It is hard to believe that Bob has left us to join our eternal Father in heaven .

I first knew Bob when we were both assigned to the Combat Developments Command at the Air Defense Artillery Center, Ft. Bliss, Texas. As an Infantry officer the evaluation of new concepts in air defense ordnance, systems, and tactics was a challenge for him. His superb analytical skills and keen insight were instrumental in the advancement of new capabilities for the Army such as defense against tactical ballistic missiles, and forward area air defense.

Since we both lived on base and only two blocks apart our families developed a close and lasting friendship, despite a tragedy that was occasioned when our little Chihuahua dog managed to get to their pet parakeet bird.

Later we both served at the same time in the Office of the Chief of Research and Development in Washington, D.C. We again enjoyed many evenings together that included a mint julep and Guigi’s delicious Italian dinners.

After retirement my wife and I went out to Frederick, Illinois to visit with Bob and Guigi. We enjoyed the beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright home they retired to and the tranquility of their farm. Bob took us on a tour and showed us all the glory of the Land of Lincoln and the roots of Mark Twain.

The last time we got together was when Bob and Guigi travelled out to the State of Washington and we spent several days together up on Guemes Island in the cabin at our tree farm. Bob and Guigi enjoyed the rural lifestyle and the majestic beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

And now I must say farewell my friend. WELL DONE. You have earned the eternal respect and admiration of all who have had the privilege of knowing you.
