Be Thou At Peace

Posted by George Smith on October 6, 2006:

Then Major Breakiron took charge of Company K1 in the fall of 1963 with no less than six of his stalwart Firsties, Class of 1964, in the grade of Private! As one of those miscreants, I will never forget the first meeting the six of us had with him, as he treated us kindly, yet firmly, with compassion. I am convinced his personal intervention helped to mitigate one of my more serious slugs. Release from confinement to attend the Ring Hop was also one of his gifts to at least two of us. His continued guidance and example, not withstanding the "Shadow" stories, inspired me to choose Infantry as my first choice of branch. I've never regretted trying to follow in his path.
