Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Mike and Kay Dey on October 9, 2006:

While we didn't know Dick personally, he treated us as though he did. We had so many questions when we became part of the West Point family in 2003, and on several occasions, Dick was gracious enough to send a lengthy , and very complete, personal explanation to our inquiries. We gave our son and daughter a signed copy of his and Dian's book for Christmas that year, but have to confess to a careful and guilty read prior to gifting. We truly did learn much about the heretofore unknown traditions at West Point, particularly those that are known only to the cadets. But the knowledge was only half the story, as the love for West Point and humor that only someone who loves this venerable institution, was what made the book a treasure that will last through future generations of the Long Gray Line.

In similar fashion, Dick's generosity in using his considerable talent to create a forum for communication among the many constituencies of West Point is a living legacy that will be hard to equal. I hope that from his observation post in heaven, he can finally see the vast web of appreciation we have for him, his wonderful spirit, and for the gift of sharing thoughts and information with those who are similarly interested.

We would also like to thank his family, who graciously shared his time on earth with so many of us who benefited from his generosity.

With Heartfelt Condolences,

Mike and Kay Dey
