My mother was Bruce Elmblad's first cousin. His mother Ruth was the sister of my grandmother. When I was young Bruce was a towering figure in mother's family stories. She looked up to him to the day of her death. "Cub" as the family called him, was always very kind to my mother after she was widowed at a young age. Cub always seemed to have enough energy for another four people and he used this to take and interest in many things. Even after decades of living away from Upper Michigan he took an interest in local people and events. My mother often said that Cub's intelligence and driven would take him place and he did accomplish a lot in the business world, traveling all over the globe, meeting people of many different backgrounds. He had a kind of relentless positive energy and I caught some of this when he spoke at my sister's high school graduation. Cub was immensely proud of his children. For a few years after his retirement he continued to serve on various boards of directors as if he couldn't sit still for long. He was kind and helpful to my family in certain education matters and for this we are very grateful. He will be missed his family and all his many friends.
