Be Thou At Peace

Posted by John W. Carter on February 1, 2012:

It was a sad day that my brother left us. He was my hero all my life. He was at West Point and encouraged me to attend this great institution. I did and entered the Class of 1955. I was a goat and had several turnouts that he helped me get through. My last turnout was the one that I did not study for and naturally I did not go back to the Point. Having attended WP for two years qualified me for the GI Bill. I went to an Aggie School in Utah and got a commission in the Air Force. I becme a navigator and crossed paths with my Brother in Texas. He was a navigator instructor in Houston and I was a navigator student in Harliingen. We saw each other many times in Texas and exchanged ideas many times. He served twenty years in the Air Force and retired back to his home state in Fallon, Nevada. I lived in Reno and we did many things together. I helped get him in his new career as a real estate appraiser where he excelled for the rest of his life until he became ill with Alzheimer's disease. It was sad to see him die of this dreaded disease. He was well liked at West Point and graduated in the upper part of his class. He had a devoted wife Mary Getto Carter with three great children. He has five grand children and friendly dog.

In closing I will always remember my big Brother encouraging me and helping me. He was always "there" when I needed him.

Thanks Don - Be Thou At Peace.

With Brotherly Love,
Jack
