Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Daniel Paul Christman on February 1, 2012:

I was just 11 years old when he died. That was thirty seven years ago. He was my hero, and in many ways he still is. He was always so much taller than me, standing at 6 feet 5 inches tall. Me being just a kid, he towered over me, but I was never afraid of him. He was one of the most loving men I ever knew.

He was strict with me, but why wouldn't he be. He was a colonel afterall, a war veteran, an honor graduate from West Point. I always spoke to him with a "Yes, sir", "No, sir". But despite that, every night we would say our prayers, he would tuck me into bed, and tell me to kiss his cheek. A great military man he was, and a great father he was too.

I still love you dad, and I'm still proud to be your son. May the Lord show His face to you and may He be kind to you on that day when I see you again.

Paul
