Douglas Golding Dwyre

West Point, 1954

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Michael Dwyre on August 9, 2012:

Doug was the oldest of five Dwyre brothers, all sons of Col.Douglas Golding Dwyre and Eleanor Marie Dwyre, who were married for some 55 years and are buried in Presidio of San Francisco National Cemetery. Our Dad was a graduate of West Point class of 1929 who served with the 35th Infantry Division throughout World War II in Europe and retired from the US Army after 30 years. We were an Army family!

After graduating from West Point, my brother Doug served as a pilot instructor in the US Air Force, left to enter the Jesuit Seminary, thought better of it after sampling the rigors of the Jesuit order which he said far exceeded those of West Point. He then married beautiful Pauline, whose eulogy appears earlier in this website, and together raised six children to adulthood.

We five brothers have gone our separate ways in life and mostly stayed in touch through our parents. There were several years in which my life intersected with Doug's and our children have developed some close ties among them. After our parents died, we five brothers have striven to keep family bonds through periodic reunions, emails, etc. We continue to do so, but it is much more difficult now without Doug. We miss him greatly.

P.S. I only recently found this website by accident.
