It is hard to believe that Bud won't be with us for our upcoming 55th Class Reunion and the ones to follow. He enjoyed getting together on those occasions with his E-1 comrades and other classmates, and it was always a joy to learn what he had been doing. He always found beneficial ways to stay involved, so it was no surprise to learn that he was such a fine asset to his community in retirement. Bud and I were roommates along with "Brick" Brickwell for our last two years at the Academy, and I was a guest at his home in Storrs, CT on several occasions during that time. His mom was a kind, generous hostess and a strong supporter of West Point, Bud being her second cadet son. A special memory of "Mrs. P" involves her attempt at matchmaking for Bud and the unintended results. Her choice for Bud was a one-time date, while that date's accompanying classmate became my lifetime OAO. Following graduation leave, Bud and I were roommates for the Basic Infantry Officers Course and Airborne, and then Ranger buddies for that final training before he headed for Germany and his first of many overseas assignments. I followed his exceptional military career from afar but wasn't much aware of his outstanding retirement activities until after his death. Although I cherish the early memories, it is also with sadness that I reminisce about Bud. He was a great guy and is sorely missed by me and so many others. Rest in peace, dear friend.
