Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Thomas E. Sims on April 25, 2023:

Dave was one of my 3 wives Plebe year and one of my 2 wives Yearling year.

Dave was a friendly, disorganized person who would do anything for you that he could, but wasn't a military person, and should never have gone to USMA.

His mother, who raised him and his siblings in Las Vegas, was one of the first female attorneys in Nevada in 1947, and she became a powerful lawyer in Nevada politics and liberal causes, and she decided that he should go to USMA and got him an appointment from a Nevada senator.

Dave made plebe year for I-2 plebes (especially for his wives) a lot easier, because he drew constant attention from the upper class, and away from us.

Also, Dave had a lot of relatives in the NYC area, where he was born, who made frequent boodle runs to USMA, which he shared with his wives. I had never heard of salami and several other Jewish foods until they were part of the boodle runs. We also benefited from his frequent Jewish choir trips which also produced a lot of boodle for our room's mantle.

It was a minor miracle that he survived / endured at USMA for 3 years before he said that enough was enough and resigned.

I didn't have any contact with Dave after he resigned, but I saw where he died in a car accident in Chicago in 1978, and I believe I saw that he was married.

R.I.P Dave,

Tom Sims
