VIP was a good friend and one of my best e-mail buddies. I'll miss him greatly. The following is an excerpt from the San Antonio Express-News.

Col. William J. Vipraio (USAF Ret.) of San Antonio, TX, age 75 entered into rest on Saturday, August 11, 2007. He was born 12 Sept. 1931 in Chicago, Il, to William and Mary Vipraio. He entered the US Military Academy at West Point and graduated in 1954 and went into pilot training in Arizona where he met his wife, Shirley Westphalen. They spent a wonderful 52 years together. In 1960 he earned his Masters in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science at the University of Oklahoma. While in the Air Force he received the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and The Legion of Merit Medals with two clusters and the Air Medal. Upon retirement he ventured into stained glass, he later retired from that art. His other hobbies were calligraphy and trap shooting. He was a member of the San Antonio Target, Hunting and Fishing Club. William shot his highest score the day before he became ill. He was preceded in death by his parents. William is survived by his wife of 52 years Shirley J. Vipraio; sons, William G. Vipraio and Gilbert A. Vipraio and his wife Margarita; grandchildren, William W. Vipraio, Kristin M. Vipraio, David A. Vipraio and Eddie and Ann Garza. MEMORIAL MASS THURSDAY, AUGUST 16, 2007 11:00 A.M.
