Be Thou At Peace

I had the good fortune of getting to know Pete a few years ago when he volunteered to help raise money for the Friends of Army Swimming and Diving. He contacted former Army swim team members from the classes of the 1950's. When the checks arrived, many would contain notes stating what a pleasure it was to speak to Pete. His obituary is understated with regards to his swimming achievements. He actually achieved All American status in seven individual events and one relay event. He was the recipient of the Class of 1923 award for the graduating senior swimmer who exhibited qualities of leadership and sportsmanship. He also was the team captain. I enjoyed sharing common swimming experiences with Pete and greatly admired him. I will miss him. |
