Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Yale and Phil Weatherby on August 22, 2010:

Murray had moved to the Washington DC area and he lived in a apartment alone where he managed for a while, even cooking, although with some bad results with things spilling into his lap, as Howard Prescott (our best man at our wedding) told us as they were friends. He and Mo were laughing about it so it was just funny, not too bad results. He had a handicapped van, but of course could not drive it. He was at a party at Walt Evan's home and we had to laugh because it was still the same old Mo.....it was a pool party and guess who had fur lined jock straps if needed by any attendees!!!

The last time we saw him was in an unlikely place....the parking garage of the Kennedy Center. We and Murray had both been to events there....but not the same events. We were all getting into our cars when Yale and I saw him with his daughter as he was about to go into the van. We dashed over to him but only exchanged a few words as it was a bitterly cold night, not one to linger for any time. We moved away to Texas after that time, and we never saw him again, although Bill Bathurst kept in touch with him, and we'd hear from Bill.

We thought it absolutely perfect that his lovely daughter and her family had a gathering at the Zoo bar in Washington for people to remember him.....if we had lived in the area we would have been there....with something in hand that we would have reminded everyone of him. I'm sure as Bill Bathurst has said...Mo would have said.....party on. He was one of a kind, and we all liked him for being so.
