James Polk Spruill

Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Jack B. Thomas on January 9, 2013:
When we were 10-years old, I called him, "Polk" (smile). In Plymouth, he lived directly across from me on Washington Street at the intersection of Fourth Street. We were 9 and 10-years old and we spent many hours together playing all sorts of games and, even at that young age, Polk had a a lot of creative energy and an active imagination. He and I were as close as brothers. When I moved away in 1941, I never saw Polk again, but thought of him often with very fond memories. When I found his name on the Memorial Wall, I stood there and cried like a baby as I cherished the memory of the kid that I loved so much.
After 70+-years, I had only a foggy recollection of what Polk looked like, but when I saw his picture on the website, I immediately recognized him as if it were only yesterday that I saw him last... he had not changed one bit! My heart was happy to see him again.
I will never forget him and someday I hope we will meet again.
Jack
PS: "Bull Moose" and "Monkey Brown" also miss you, Polk (smile).
