Jacob D. Bower

West Point, 2015

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by COL GR Gulley on July 25, 2011:

It is with great difficulty that my family extends our deepest sympathies to the Bower family during this terrible time of bereavement. The class of 2015 is better for having known Jacob. Our family knows how proud you are of Jacob. Jacob took the road less travelled, and decided to serve the nation rather than attend a university with civilian comfort... He chose West Point. He was and still is an intricate part of class 2015. While we cherish the help of the "God of all comfort" (2 Cor. 1:3), even that great comfort doesn't change the reality of Jacob's empty chair or his infectious smile at class gatherings. Scripture does not tell us that God wipes away our sadness in this life, but it does tell us that God is faithful and will comfort us.

Because your family has made the supreme sacrifice, you should lean heavily on God's comfort. Keep trusting Him. But know that it's okay to feel sadness for this absence. Consider it one more reason to place your burdens on your loving heavenly Father. You did an amazing job raising such a remarkable son and we benefitted from the magnificent parenting that you did.
