Vane Quentin Bates

West Point, 1955

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Carl H. McNair, Jr. on June 28, 2013:

- Quent Bates, an ICON by definition - "a representation of a sacred Christian personage." Soldier, scholar, athlete, loving husband, father, business executive, classmate and friend, revered and admired by all who knew him - a success and role model in all that he did, for his church, family, community and the Class of 1955.

- When he was needed, he was there. In his quiet, unassuming, calm and confident manner, he could bring consensus and cohesion from those about him making it a pleasure to be in his presence and work with him. A leader of giant stature - our world needs more built in his mold of character and morality. For he will be sorely missed among our ranks until the last member of our beloved Class of 1955 has left this world of the living.

- We have lost a dear friend who has now gone to rest in the arms of the Almighty, our "Maker and Master of Men." So, let us the living, remember Quent and his many contributions to our class, the Academy and his community, extending our deepest and heartfelt sympathies and prayers for Anna and the family, who will miss him most.

- Grip Hands, though it be from the shadows - across the the miles and years yet to come.

Faithfully,

Carl McNair,'55
Classmate and Friend in Christ
