Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Robert Wray on December 28, 2010:
Doc was an interesting roommate. He smoked a big Sherlock Holmes meerschaum pipe, kept a tank model on his desk in tribute to his hero, General Patton, and kept us in fear of being stabbed when he flourished the epee that was his choice of weapons for the fencing team. Doc had things figured out well before most of us naive country boys. He had early set his goal, Armor, when most of us hadn't even contemplated a branch selection, but finally decided Engineers was the better path. He rarely,if ever, spent any time after taps in the hall finishing an academic assignment, unlike the procrastinators he roomed with and he was always willing to share his academic knowlege when we needed it. Doc was a thoughtful and generous friend during our Cadet days, and I didn't cross paths with him again until shortly before he died. We had a brief but wonderful reunion and my only regret is that there weren't more contacts over the years with this unique, warm, and accomplished human being. Rest in peace, Doc.
