Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Daniel Dugan on October 24, 2012:

Just whom in our Class did not know or know of Bulldog? No one. Bulldog Drummond's namesake was Bulldog Drummond - the fictional British character who was the hero in many of Herman McNeile's novels - whose pseudonym was "Sapper." BD was A WWI veteran who became a detective. Some of the novel's titles reflect who our Bulldog was - "Bulldog Drummond Attacks," "Bulldog Drummond Stands Fast," and "Hands Off Bulldog Drummond." Affectionately known by some of us as the Class Curmudgeon, he had the temper that is embodied in redheads - believe me I know because I married one.

Bulldog's career was very notable and one unenviable command that I recall was that he had to take custody of the infamous Panamanian dictator Noriega who was extradited to Florida after our brief invasion. They certainly picked the right man for that job, because, as we all know, Bulldog not only didn't suffer fools, but he would take no guff. They picked the right man for the job.

Bulldog, we miss you already, but we know that you are getting a well deserved rest and, hopefully, duties that only you can carry out.

Your Classmate, Dan (E-1 next door)
