Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Andrew B.Stroud, Jr. on March 14, 2017:

The term "player's coach" comes to mind when I think of General Franklin. He was the "Cadet's Commandant"! After a three year career running track at Army, General Franklin changed my life by "asking" me to try out for the Rabble Rousers. Believe me, being a rabble rouser was not on my bucket list...I was very content doing the "oh yeah" cheer and going about my business. But in 1980, I was among the dozen cadets who participated in the cheer leader version of American Idol competing to be the next head rabble rouser. I won the competition, quit track, and became the head rabble rouser. It was without a doubt the highlight of my cadet career. I remember getting a hand written letter from General Franklin congratulating me on re-branding the rabble rousers. The experience for me was life changing. It also solidified my friendship with General Franklin. If you haven't read his book, The West Point Way, it is the bible on building leaders. I would like to thank General Franklin for making my West Point journey extremely rewarding.
