WATHA J. EDDINS, JR.

Watha James "Jim" Eddins, Jr., (80) departed this life on Thursday, November 21, 2013. Jim was a Renaissance man who lived a wonderful and full life. Jim graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1955, rose to the rank of Colonel, and served 30 years followed by 4 years with the Rand Corporation. Jim was awarded a number of honors and commendations while serving in the military and in combat in Vietnam.

Jim and his first wife, Beverly Bupp, had five children, including a set of triplets. His second wife, Adrienne Astolfi, died of cancer in 1986. In late 1990, he fully retired and moved with his beloved wife Ann Clark (Gray) to Albemarle County, Virginia.

Jim was known for his intellect, his unflappable nature, and his often dry wit. He is survived by his wife Ann, a large family of children, step-children and their families, all of whom adored and respected him: Tory Davison, children Hannah and Cal; Reby Szelc and husband Rick, daughter Camille; Katy Cleary and husband Tom, children TJ, Jack and Callaway; Missy Buck and husband Danny, son Christopher Salaba and step-son DJ; James Eddins and wife Sharon, son JD; Burton Gray and wife Yardly, children Courson, Abigail and Burton Robert; Jane Gray and children Malcolm and Aurora; Hunter Gray, wife Megan, and his daughter Juliet. Jim's life was enriched by a tremendous support network of loving aides Princess Jones, Judy Mills, and John Williams.

Celebration of life services will be held December 16, 1 p.m. at Buck Mountain Episcopal Church, Earlysville, Virginia. Interment will follow, at a later date, in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to: Class of 1955 Gift Fund, AOG USMA, West Point, NY 10996; Preservation Piedmont, P.O.
