Be Thou At Peace

Posted by David Emswiler on July 14, 2008:

COL Wix opened his home to all Delaware cadets during his time in Social Sciences while I was at USMA. As a new cadet and a 4th classman, I was lonely for home and COL Wix made me feel welcome and safe. I look back on those memories with warmth and fondness as well as an abiding respect and gratitude for all that he did for all of us when we so desparately needed a soft voice, a kind word and a place of comfort. I lost touch with him after graduating in '75. When I went back for a Glee Club reunion this last summer in 2007, I happened to be walking through the cemetary at the Academy when I found his grave at my feet. The sadness and shock were almost overwhelming. The memories of his kindness and the warmth of his smile came rushing back to me. I never thanked you enough, COL Wix. You were an inspration and my friend. I was honored to have known you.
