Dennis James Cosca

Dennis Cosca passed peacefully at home on March 21, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Oakland, CA on September 11, 1932, Dennis lived an exceptional life full of adventure. He received an appointment to the Military Academy at West Point, where he received an engineering degree in 1955. That same year Dennis married his sweetheart and partner in adventure and life Shirley (Boersig) Cosca, and they remained faithfully devoted for 62 years.

Dennis began his career working for IBM, then in 1962, Dennis, Shirley, and 5 young children moved to San Francisco, where he attended dental school at UCSF. In addition to studying and being patriarch of a young family, Dennis was providing service to country as a pilot in the US Air Force Reserve flying a variety of aircraft. Four years later, Dennis returned to Sacramento where he established a thriving dental practice and embarked upon many adventures with his family and friends. Dennis had an innate interest in opportunities that came his way, finding joy in traveling, camping, fishing, hunting, backpacking, abalone diving, tennis, and golf, to name just a few.

Dennis had many dear friends with whom he shared a multitude of activities (and escapades).

Dennis is survived by his wife Shirley, five children Dave, Mike, Sandra, Cathy, and Chris; thirteen grandchildren Rachel, Scott, Matt, Stephanie, Nicolas, Eric, Brian, Gary, Jackie, Stacey, Allison, Jessica, and Jack; two great-grandchildren Michael and Charlotte; and brothers Richard and Frank.

He will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to cancer research. A celebration of Dennis' life will be held at Arden Hills Country Club Sunday April 2, 11am.
