Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Bob Strati on September 8, 2010:

1. Final tributes for Ted were on Sat. OCT 18th. beginning at the Enders & Shirley Funeral Home in Berryville, Va. Nancy with her 2 daughters and their families attended. Viewing was from 10 AM with a memorial service at 11 AM. The service was officiated by a long time minister friend from Fairfax and a local minister. Both spoke of Ted's long time church service, his close association with many programs and the leadership he provided to the church. Four local family friends spoke of Ted's devotion to his family and to his God, as well as his active involvement in church and community activities. "Pop" Warner, Ted's best man at his marriage to Nancy, spoke on behalf of the class and company H-2. Others would have spoken but were curtailed due to the
length of the service.

2. Final resting place for Ted is at the Mount Hebron Cemetery. Military Honor's were provided by the Winchester V.F.W. Post 2123 honor guard. The cemetery pre-dates the Civil War and is the final resting place for many deceased from that war as well as veterans from other US wars.

3. Following the interment the group went to a nearby Hampton Inn for a buffet lunch and the opportunity to visit with Nancy and her family as well as other attendees.

4. All attendees at this final tribute for Ted numbered between 150 and 200 people. Classmates attending were: Norm and Barbara Blahuta, Jack Doyle, Chuck and Barbara Ewing, Ted Gay, Jerry Hagan, Ray Karam, Mac and Marge McIlroy, Carl McNair, John and Mary Pickitt, Chuck Roades, Matt and Betty Schepps, John and Ruth Sloan, Bob and Pat Strati, Morris "Pop" Warner, Dick and Sally Wargowsky, and Tom Weaver, and Tommy West.

lieu of flowers the class has made a donation to F.I.S.H. PO Box 1154, Berryville, Va. 22611. This is a local charity providing assistance to those in need.
