Be Thou At Peace

Walter was a long time resident of Arlington, VA. He was the husband of Mary Ann Drury Campbell for 56 years, father of Mary Elizabeth Simons (Mark) and Reid Andrew (Kathleen), and grandfather of Dylan and Shannon. Born August 29, 1932, in the Panama Canal Zone, he was the son of Walter Hills Campbell, PE, and Margaret Elizabeth Postle, of London, OH.

Walter grew up in Arlington, graduating from Washington-Lee High School in 1950. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with the Class of 1955 and later earned a Master's Degree from Stanford University. Walter served in the US Army Signal Corps, for 22 years. Following military service, he continued his career as a Systems Analyst for PRC, IBM, and Loral. He was very active at Christ United Methodist Church and The Falls Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Walter was an Eagle Scout and remained active with the Boy Scouts, as an Assistant Troop Leader and volunteered with FISH and the Arlington Food Bank. Walter enjoyed tending his beautiful vegetable and flower gardens, creating wood furniture and toys for family and friends, researching family and Civil War history, and sharing his knowledge with others.

Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, April 28th from 6-8 p.m. at MURPHY'S FUNERAL HOME, 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 29 at 1:00 p.m. at The Historic Falls Church, 115 East Fairfax Street, Falls Church, VA with interment at Kirkwood Cemetery, London, OH at a later date.

The family requests donations be made in Walter's name to Capital Caring (previously Capital Hospice) (Attn: Philanthropy Department; 2900 Telestar Court; Falls Church, VA 22042).
