Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jim Ryan on December 20, 2001:

Dick Struss was one of my USMA Prep School pals. We were both USAF enliste men at the time. We had an easy rapport and both had an interest in language. Dick and I invented for our own use a made-up language called "speed talk." We would communicate with each other in rapid speech cutting off the ends of words, sometimes leaving whole words out of a sentence, and giving meaning to what we were saying by facial expressions as well. He was a very pleasant person to be around. I did not see a lot of him at West Point or after we graduated, and I am sorry for that.
