Col. Rex Van Noy Perkins, U.S. Army (Ret.)
Apr 11, 1930 - Jun 30, 2016
Mr. Perkins, 86, of Bluffton, S.C., died Thursday.
He was the son of the late Daisy and Clyde Perkins, formerly of Bolivar.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann Crooks Perkins; his daughters, Karey Perkins and Vanessa Palmer, both of Bluffton, S.C., and Stephanie Giegerich and husband John of Atlanta, Ga.; and his four grandchildren.
He attended Springfield High School and Drury College before entering West Point Academy where he graduated in 1955 as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. he taught as an instructor in geography at West Point after completing a master's degree at Syracuse University.
He served in command positions for 30 years in Korea, Vietnam, Hawaii, Turkey, Italy as well as various posts in the southern states.
Upon retirement, he became an administrator for a law firm in Atlanta, Ga., subsequently retiring again in Bluffton, S.C., where he and Ann lived for the last 22 years.
