Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Anne L. Grande on July 30, 2016:

Rex organized his garden into sections: he rented the bluebird house to a new brood every spring; he designed a bubbling water feature surrounded by lush ivy in the center;he created a romantic corner in the far left with a wrought iron cafe table and only 2 chairs. He filled clay pots of varied sizes and moved them all about depending on their light and water needs. At the front entrance, this outdoor man nurtured bamboo and ivy to create a shaded and exotic environment, restful and peaceful.
His second hobby was history. From his inside writing table,he enjoyed a serene view of more container flowers amongst patio stones and ornamental Camilla trees which grew happily in the cooler South Carolina winter months. There he read and studied, wrote his autobiography of his Missouri country background and his full military life with Ann and their daughters.
Rex was particularly interested in the seat of civilization, Istanbul and the Bosphorus where the geographical, economic, military and political conflicts collided centuries ago and currently. He studied and wrote of the mystique of the peoples and religions, the many dynasties that rose and fell.
Rex loved and appreciated elegance in all forms: music, sculpture, cuisine, wines, and highly polished Italian leather shoes. He and his beautiful wife Ann celebrated the Millenium at Hong Kong's most famous five-star hotel.
We miss him and are very proud to count ourselves as neighbors and friends.
