Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jack Campbell on December 15, 2009:

Reed was a Classmate, but more than that, he was a friend. We visited and enjoyed each other's company almost every week. We liked the same type of music and spent many hours listening to old songs and burning new CDs. He enjoyed his Computer Club and liked sharing what he had learned that week. I liked listening and learning.

Reed provided an office for the Mini-Reunion Committee in his office park and we met there to work out the details of the Mini. It was there in April before the Mini that he returned from an appointment to tell us he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and given about six months to live. His strength, determination and positive attitude were just unbelievable. But that was Reed!

After the Mini, Reed and I tried to go to lunch every week that his chemo did not interfere. He loved the "Endless Soup and Salad" at the Olive Garden. As he exceeded his "six months" he got a kick out of bragging that he was driving his doctors crazy proving them wrong. He did that for a full year!

I'm thankful for the time we had together as friends and for the things he taught me about attitude and outlook on life. I, like so many others, am going to miss Reed, but I'm never going to forget him.

Reed, I'll see you later. Carry on... ~jack
