Funeral Services for Robert Louis Soper, Jr., 76, of Midland, will be Wednesday, May 27,2009, at 11:00 a.m., at the Jackie Warren Funeral Home chapel, 702 S. Terrell, with Rev. Terry Johnson officiating. He died May 24,2009, at his residence.

Mr. Soper was born September 26, 1933, to Robert Louis Soper, Sr.. and Marie Schramm Soper, in Newark, New York. His parents preceded him in death.

In 1956, Robert met and married Bertie Wilson at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Robert graduated from Newark High School in 1949, and was a graduate of West Point in 1955, and Navy Post graduate, 1967, Montaray, California .. From 1969 to 1972, he was Professor of classic nuclear physics at West Point. Mr. Soper was a veteran of the Korea and Vietnam wars and served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1977. He retired and moved to Midland, Texas in 1993.

Survivors include his wife, Bertie Soper of Midland; sons, Thomas Wayne Soper and his wife of Midland, John Lawrence Soper of Midland, one sister, Gale and her husband Bob Palesard; two brothers, Chuck Soper and Matthew Soper and his wife Joan; Arthur Wilson, John D. Wilson and wife Dorthy; children, Coral, Lynn and Larry, all of Midland.

Pallbearers: John Soper, Military Honorary Guard, Bill Edwars, Bill Haas, Thomas Auger. Honorary pallbearers Martin C. Meissner, Gerone Halshire, Jim Lewis and Chuck Soper.

Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, under the direction of Jackie Warren Funeral Home, 702 S. Terrell, Midland, Texas, 432 683-8229. Viewing, Tuesday, May 26, 2009, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
