Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Tom Phillips on November 17, 2014:

The Memorial Service for Lt Col (USAF RET) and Reverend Walter C. McCrillis, II, was held on Thursday 13 November 2014, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin, Mo. The service was officiated by the Rev. Gregory Mach, with the Pastor who installed Walt as a Pastor, delivering the eulogy.

Walt served 24 years in the USAF, retiring with the rank of Lt Col. He then attended seminary and served 27 years as a pastor in the Lutheran Church.

Walt's wife, Nancy McCrillis preceded him in death by five months.

Walt and Nan are survived by two daughters, Lorily and Polly, and their families, and three brothers, George, Robert, and John, and their families. All were present at the services.

The class was represented by Bill and Mary Fran Bottoms, Harold (Dick) Hoeferkamp, and myself. The class floral arrangement was truly beautiful, with large flowers and ribbons denoting USMA and the Class of 1955.

The internment of his ashes was performed the following day, Friday, 14 November 2014 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery with full military honors performed most ably by the Missouri National Guard Honor Team. It was a most fitting remembrance for a man we all knew and loved, who was truly "called" to serve by both his country and his God.

Grip hands,
Tom Phillips
