Wilfred George Volkstadt

Retired U.S. Air Force Lt.Col. Wilfred G. Volkstadt, 74, of Stafford County, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 4, 2007.

"Bill" Volkstadt was a member of the Class of 1955, United States Military Academy. After his retirement, he worked for DCS Corp. and also became very involved in his community.

He was past master of John A. LeJeune Lodge 350 A.F. & A.M. in Quantico and a member of the York Rite Bodies in Fredericksburg, and served as High Priest. He also was a Knight Templar of the Commandry, Worthy Patron of Calvin A. Lloyd 81, Order of the Eastern Star in Quantico, Past Royal Patron of Destiny Court 14, Order of the Amaranth in Manassas, and a member of the Legion of Honor Acca Shrine Center of Richmond, Sojourners and Heroes of '76, as well as a member of Summit Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Volkstadt is survived by his wife, Sylvia "Kip" Volkstadt; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra L. and W. Kurt Shellhammer of Germany and Patricia L. and Kevin W. Young of Fredericksburg; and his five grandchildren, Lindsey N. Shellhammer, Patrick M. Young, Nathan Shellhammer, Joseph K. Young and Matthew R. Young.

A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Summit Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Steve Dyer officiating. Burial will follow in Quantico National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., with fraternal rites starting at 8 p.m., on Tuesday, July 10, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel.

The family requests that contributions be made in memory of Bill Volkstadt to the Amaranth Diabetes Foundation, c/o Destiny Court, 8904 Anita Court, Manassas, Va. 20110.
