Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Tony Gates on December 2, 2018:

I first met John when I came on board the West Point Society of Northern California. He was a Board Member and, from the very start, was really helpful in my learning the ups and downs of the organization.

He and his Wife, Barbara, were 2 beams of light that made everything okay and brightened the way for everybody. He not only had great ideas, he was also more than willing to put his nose to the grindstone to implement them.

I also remember him as Treasurer for the Society and how hard he warmed at it and how conscientious he was to make sure everything added up correctly and provide info for our tax returns.

Our only Air Force Officer, John led the way on our great relationship with the local Air Force Academy Association of Graduates chapter. He also endured more than his share of "Zoomie" jokes, and threaded the needle nicely at our Army - Air Force Football Game Viewing Parties.

Most will know John by his smiling, pleasant, welcoming face when they attended our Founders Day Events. He carved out a place for himself there as the official Welcoming Committee.

John was a strong shoulder on which I readily leaned when I had an issue or needed counsel. He supported and helped guide me and made me a much better Society President.

He made a difference and I will miss him tremendously.

Well done, John. Be thou at peace.
