Be Thou At Peace

Posted by WYNNE (KOL) STERN on October 29, 2009:

It seems that "forever" has come to an end. How could that be? Kelly was there, he was always there.

I first met Kelly at Capppie Bernsteins' house (Class '50?), pre-entry to WP, to get some insight into "all things connected with the coming "Plebe Year".

"Whenever the Class had a need, Kelly filed the need, selflessly. "Tzdaka" was his true being, coupled with an enormous love for West Point, its graduates and environs. Our lose, no matter what, is beyond calculation. He was a selfless provider (with his annual "talgates"); "l'dor", "v'dor"...reaching beyond the generations, from generation to generation of Cadets and Graduates (substituting his tailgate generousity for those Cadets whose families were too far away to provide their own),welcoming all Cadets, especially the Basketball Team; a Master builder (securing funds for the Jewish Chapel, the Catholic Church, The Indoor Tennis Courts, Coach housing, etc.).

That Kelly would be there, I took for granted...that he was the "go to" guy, I took for granted
and now...and now...G-D bless you HERBERT "KELLY" LICHTENBERG, G-D bless you and your wonderful, giving, family.
