Be Thou At Peace

I met Kelly back when we all did, on the Plains of West Point, a place that would join us forever. He, like all of us, was most interested in 'survival'. As a plebe that was first on our mind. But through it all Kelly was a bright spot among us with a survival mentality and in that he helped us all. I was in awe of him as he was the guy with the big father 'big Sam' he called him from New York City. Later I found out my fears were totally unfounded as Kelly became a most loveable and loyal friend, to me and to our Class. It remained that way throughout our lifetime as Kelly kept giving and giving and giving of himself with no thought of reward or payment. And so it was with Herbert 'Kelly' Lichtenberg, a Classmate who made a difference, to me, to our Class and to his beloved West Point. There he will be laid to rest among the other heros, surrounded by those hallowed grey walls where he spent so much time. Trudy will miss him sorely as will his family. But I, for one, will miss him too... for that smile and for the happiness he brought into my life. Be thou at peace dear friend and join that Long Grey Line you so revered. Just Tommy:(
