I knew Kelly when we were at West Point and he was in G-2 and I was in I-2, but we weren't close friends. We became close friends when we were BOQ roommates in primary pilot training at Marianna Air Base in Florida and at advanced training at Laredo AFB in Texas. After we both resigned from the Air Force, we both got season tickets to Army home football games in 1960 and started tailgating when there were no more than a dozen other Army tailgaters We continued tailgating over the years as they became more and more elaborate and we were joined by many other grads. We also attended many classmate parties at West Point over the years, often staying at the Thayer, as well as frequent visits to each other's home. Kelly was a friendly, lovable, generous person who I miss. R.I.P. old friend. |
